the wandering cosmonaut
6/18/08 -- with circles and circles the physics of the matter return to a roar. things hum and I am lifted. just spent a month in new orleans working on a tv show. back in the game with some LA shows. september promises to be an epic love affair with machine project in New York, the only trick for me is to keep up. hey, isn't it about time for a new album?
I feel like a new person, with new skin.
11/14/07 -- What I love about touring is that you necessarily grow as a person and as a musician. I'm working on a new album that employs several new philosophies and approaches to creating sounds. It's all very exciting, I feel like a chameleon who has suddenly changed colors but can still see the old ones deep inside.
from florida to philly!
10/29/07 -- I'm on tour opening for Dr. Dog all throughout the East! I just arrived in Florida today. Yay! I know it's gonna be crazy. I know it's gonna be funky. I know it's gonna be wacky. Right now I'm in the FSU Campus Cafeteria, smelling more and more like teriyaki sauce by the minute, thinking about changing locales to another part of campus. Florida looks just like I imagined it: Swampy, marshy, green, and mysterious!
newsworthy new york tapes
7/16/07 -- I kinda sorta moved to new york? Yeah that sounds about right. Although I don't really feel like I left LA, its more just like a got another home now to add to my patchwork. It's nice, it's an expansion of the base. on the agenda: the creation of a psychedelic gospel, along with a harmony-laden form of beat poetry faster-talking than the newsman folk.
question
4/22/07 -- WHAT IS THE INTERNET? WHAT IS A COMPUTER?
News for new days and new times
3/4/07 -- News? Well the newest happiest news I can think of is the new album I just finished recording today. My roommate said: "You're going to record an album in a weekend?", and I said "Why do you think I've been practicing so much lately" followed by "...recording is different for me than most people. It's more like producing a record of insanity than anything else". Well at any rate the surprise star player today was the late breaking harmonica.
lovely beautiful los angeles white light
2/3/07: TEACHING, TEACHING, TEACHING, I have been a teaching machine! 2 workshops this month at calarts which were loads of fun, also in prep for an experimental team-teaching effort with corey fogel at oakwood school, working with collage, gaming, performance, and cycles. Speaking of machinery the Art LA 2007 Fair with Machine Project was mind blowing! So much stimulus, so much imagination, so much adrenaline, and then so tired. Mark Allen of machine is my new old favorite new hero. What a great contributor to culture here in LA. Busily working on a full semester course next year at CalArts called "What is the Internet?"- Which will be a discussion-based studio environment where students make work about a technological world, without being bound by any one medium. You could make a painting about computers. More and more I'm realizing that Teaching is a part of my art practice, so in the class I too will produce work. Very exciting. Next week, feb. 6: show at betalevel
Hello there friend
1/15/07: Back in LA, still landing from the NY trip which was GREAT. 2 Shows this week, and very much looking forward to contributing to LA Art Fair 2007, (Jan. 26-28) as Machine Project has asked me to sing with the banjo, as well as teach a web design workshop. I'm very curious about how I will combine these efforts!
Hiya
12/18/06: Things are still great. Great show this weekend at High Energy Constructs. Everybody who played had me on the edge of the mountaintop. Seriously something special. 5 shows now booked for New York! Only bad news is that my film will have to show on DVD instead of 16mm, the print is not ready. Such is life. The good news is though that so much wonderful music is being played by so many wonderful people in this gosh darn beautiful world.
Hello there!
12/2/2006: Things are great! I'm playing 5 shows in the next 4 weeks, with 3 so far booked in New York. Anyone with recs on places to play, or people to play with in NYC, please email me at elacy@calarts.edu.
Take a listen on the song page and come back to visit often. Also take a chance to contribute to the MODERN FOLK SONG ARCHIVE PROJECT, where you can contribute your own versions of old folk tunes.
ALSO- My film LOOKING FOR TECHNOLOGY (see picture below) is almost done and out the door. I may screen the film in New York if it's done by the time I leave. I am very thankful to everyone who helped make the project possible!
